   A short elementary proof of the Mohr-Mascheroni theorem. (English)

   In 1797, Mascheroni proved that every geometric construction that can
   be carried out by ruler and compass can be carried out with compass
   alone; in fact, this had already been proved in 1672 by Mohr in a
   little-known publication. Simpler proofs were obtained later by means
   of inversion. In the present paper the author gives a short proof that
   does not use inversion.
