From: hblarson@megsinet.net (Howard Larson) Subject: Camp-Meidell Inequality? More Info Date: Tue, 04 May 1999 23:54:13 GMT Newsgroups: sci.math I am hoping to get the formula and information on applicability for the Camp-Meidell inequality. The Camp-Meidell inequality is supposed to give a tighter estimate than Chebyschev's inequality. Chebyschev's inequality states (in words): The probablity that a particular value, x, of a random variable, X, lies within k std devs of the mean of X is equal to 1 - 1/k-squared. Camp-Meidell supposedly applies to smooth, uni-modal distributions where the mode is within one standard deviation of the mean. All responses/leads are appreciated.
