From: pce@empre.es Newsgroups: sci.math.symbolic Subject: ECOSIM: a new continuous simulation tool Date: Tue, 31 Mar 1998 03:33:57 -0600 Hello ! We have developped a continuous simulation tool available now on UNIX machines. ECOSIM is an advanced software develpped originally for the European Space Agency for modelling of environment control and life support systems for Hermes and Columbus, but today it has been applied to many other fields. I consist of: - An advanced simulation language. The user create components containing the physical model. It uses the ports (e.g. electrical, fluid, etc.), specific variables and equations. Components are based on a series of Differential and Algebraic Equations using a straighforward language. Once developped, they can be treated as black boxes and they can be interconnected with other components easily. - A powerful Man-Machine interface (currently on X-Windows) where the user can drag and drop components onto a Flow Sheet diagram and connect the components. It can be created very complex models just by reusing tested components and only using the mouse. - A sofisticated software for sorting and integrating the resulting equations using a DAE solver (based on R. Petzold's DASSL solver). - Experiment a post-process monitors to make any kind of study about the involved variables (it uses nice XRT-graphs to plot them). Currently there are libraries available for - Thermohydraulics - Fuel cells - Robotics - Cryogenic systems - Propulsion - Demo libraries for electrical circuits, AOCS, Guided weapos and missiles Today it has been used mainly in the aerospace sector.
