From: rusin@math.niu.edu (Dave Rusin) Subject: Archives of sci.math.research Date: 5 May 1999 00:30:03 -0500 Newsgroups: sci.math.research Nearly-complete archives of previous posts to sci.math.research are now available (again). Almost immediately after the inception of this newsgroup in September, 1991, an archive of postings was made available from a gopher server at Lake Forest College. That archive was taken offline last year. The files have now been added to the Epigone archive at the Math Forum (at Swarthmore University) which has already been archiving the traffic independently for the last few years. The files may be accessed at http://forum.swarthmore.edu/epigone/sci.math.research/ either by thread (in chronological order) or through a search engine. Other sources of USENET archives, such as DejaNews, also offer access to old posts, with other interfaces which may offer additional features; but as far as I am aware the Math Forum is the only site currently housing the complete archives. Special thanks to those who maintained the archive previously and made it available now, in particular Michael Boardman and Dave Yuen. Thanks also to Steve Weimar and Jay Scott at the Math Forum for agreeing to house the older posts and converting the old records to the necessary format. One copy of the old database appears to have a few defects, so from time to time one may encounter files with a missing line, for example. Anyone who has other records of defective or missing posts is invited to share the corrections. There is no "FAQ" file for this newsgroup, but those who are new to the group and think their question may be fairly common are encouraged to search the archives before posting. dave
