• John Ostrom, in the 1960s, discovered a new ìraptorî dinosaur, Deinonychus

  • Lightly built, long-legged bipedal dinosaur
  • Armed with large slashing claw on each foot (Deinonychus means ìterror clawî)

• Ostrom and Bob Bakker revised concepts of what dinosaurs were like: not slow or stupid

• Features of Deinonychus also present in birds
